Lessons Learned from...Arnold Schwarzenegger?

I find this to be extremely sad.

Arnold Schwarzenegger & Maria Shriver were together for 33 years and he wears this shirt once they're finished? I find it to be extremely insensitive and quite honestly, really really tacky. And unfortunately, reflective of many divorces.

One of the saddest parts of divorce is when the couple does everything they can to cut down the other person. The person that they once built a life with. Had kids with. Spent time planning a future together. Now suddenly, they're the worst of enemies. They're revealing dark secrets about one another and the mistakes they made during the marriage. It's hurtful, especially when the children are watching. The sad thing is that Arnold's kids were out with him when he was wearing the shirt. I wonder how they felt. I'm sure it must be hard for them, as they're fellow ACOD's themselves. I can't imagine how I'd feel if I was out with my dad and he was wearing a shirt like that. It would probably make everything even more crushing than it's already been.

So how do we stay clear of the name calling and back stabbing? How do we separate ourselves from two parents who've begun fighting like middle schoolers?

It's not easy. But it means distancing yourself and not getting involved. It means walking out if your parents start to badmouth the other in front of you and refuse to stop. It means saying no.

Why is that so hard?

It's because we never think we'll have to say no to the very people that brought us into this world.

I hope Arnold gets some more class and learns to respect the woman he once shared a life with.

Have any of you ACOD's experienced this type of situation? If so, how did you handle it? Comments and emails welcome! Acod16@gmail.com.

Oh wow. That's so sad and frustrating at the same time; I can't imagine what it would be like to see one parent wearing a shirt like that about the other. How is this productive at all? I hope their children have someone they can turn to for support.
